Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Dog Translator ("the app") is developed and published by Hüseyin İris, an independent developer publishing as heyisoft ("we", "us"), who is the data controller for the app. For any privacy matter, write to heyisoft@gmail.com.

2. What this policy covers

This policy covers the Dog Translator mobile application for iOS and Android, the server the app uses for the Dress up feature, and this website. It explains what the app handles, where it is processed, and the choices you have.

4. What we do not collect

• No audio ever leaves your phone. The sound model runs on the device; there is no server to send it to.
• No notes, no dog names, no diary content. No photos, except the single photo you send each time you choose to use Dress up.
• No account, e-mail address, name or phone number — the app has no sign-up.
• No contacts, files or precise location. Before a Dress up photo is sent to Google, our server re-encodes it, which removes embedded metadata such as GPS location and camera details.
• No ads of any kind, no advertising SDK, and no advertising identifier (Android advertising ID / Apple IDFA). The app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
• No card details — purchases are paid to Apple or Google, and we never receive your payment data.

5. How the sound analysis works

When you record your dog, the app measures acoustic properties of the sound — duration, pitch, how the pitch moves, roughness, harmonic structure — and compares them against a model that ships inside the app. All of this happens on your phone, offline. Nothing is streamed, queued or uploaded. If you delete a recording, it is gone.

Dog Translator is not a veterinary device and does not diagnose. Its "health radar" only points out when your dog’s own pattern shifts from its usual. If something feels off with your dog, talk to your vet.

6. Dress up: AI costume photos

Dress up is the only part of Dog Translator that sends a photo off your phone, and it only does so when you ask for it. Nothing is uploaded until you have chosen a photo and a costume and tapped Dress up. Before your first photo is sent, the app tells you where it goes and asks you to agree.

• What is sent. The one photo you chose, reduced in size on your phone, the costume you picked, the anonymous install identifier and an App Check token. The app cannot send any text or instructions of its own: the costume description is fixed on our server.
• Our server (ai.cockit.io), operated by heyisoft. It checks that the request comes from the genuine app (Firebase App Check, which uses Apple's App Attest on iOS and Google Play Integrity on Android), checks your subscription and credits with RevenueCat, re-encodes the photo to strip metadata, and forwards it to Google. The photo and the result are handled in memory only: they are not written to disk, not kept, and not logged. Our logs record only technical facts such as the costume, the result status and the processing time. Your install identifier is kept only as a salted one-way hash, next to the number of credits you have used. Your IP address is used to limit abuse; our application does not store it together with your photo.
• Google Gemini API. The photo and the costume description are processed by Google LLC as our data processor, under the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service for paid services. Under those terms Google does not use the photo or the result to improve its products. Google logs prompts and responses for a limited period, solely to detect and prevent violations of its Generative AI Prohibited Use Policy and for legally required disclosures; Google's abuse-monitoring documentation states this period as 55 days. This data may be stored transiently or cached in any country where Google or its agents have facilities. Before a costume is made, a Gemini model first checks that the photo shows a real dog and no person; a photo in which a person is visible is refused. Google's automated safety filters may also refuse a photo or a result. In all of these cases no credit is used.
• The result. The costume picture is returned to your phone and stored in the app on your device. It is saved to your photo library or shared only when you tap Save or Share. Pictures created by Gemini carry Google's invisible SynthID watermark, which identifies them as AI-generated.
• Your choice. Dress up is optional. If you never use it, no photo ever leaves your phone, and the rest of the app works exactly the same. Please only use photos of your own dog, and do not send photos showing people.
• Reporting. If a created picture is offensive or wrong, use Report on that picture in the app, or write to heyisoft@gmail.com. A report sends us the reason you chose, the costume and the anonymous install identifier; the picture itself is not sent. We keep a report for up to 30 days to review it, then delete it. We use reports to improve our filters.

Every service provider named in this policy — Google (Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics and App Check, and the Gemini API) and RevenueCat — receives only the data needed for the task described here, processes it under its own published terms, and is required by those terms to protect it at least as well as this policy describes.

7. Analytics and crash reporting

To keep improving the app we use Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. They record anonymous events — for example that an analysis was attempted and whether it succeeded — together with basic technical data such as device model, operating-system version and app version. This is used in aggregate; it is not tied to your name or an account (there is none), it is never sold, and it never includes your dog's name, its sounds, your photos or your notes. Collection of the advertising ID is switched off in both services. Both services are covered by Firebase's privacy terms and Google's Privacy Policy.

8. Advertising

Dog Translator shows no ads. The app contains no advertising SDK, does not read your device's advertising identifier (Android advertising ID / Apple IDFA), and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites — so it never asks for App Tracking Transparency permission or for advertising consent. Nothing from the app is shared with an ad network.

9. Purchases, subscriptions and photo credits

There is one optional subscription — Dog Translator Pro, US$4.99 per month, shown in your own currency in the app — which removes the free limits on listening and chat phrases, opens the health radar and includes Dress up photo credits. You can also buy a one-time pack of 20 photo credits (US$6.99, shown in your own currency in the app). The terms of both are in our Terms of Use. Payment is taken by Apple or Google, never by us: we never see your card, your billing address or your name.

We use RevenueCat to check that a subscription or credit purchase is valid and to restore a subscription when you reinstall or change phone. RevenueCat receives the store's purchase receipt — product, purchase and renewal dates, store country — together with an anonymous identifier the app generates for your install. Our Dress up server asks RevenueCat, using that identifier, whether you have an active subscription and how many credits you have bought. The identifier is not tied to your name or an e-mail address, because the app has neither. See RevenueCat's privacy policy. The counters for your free listens and free phrases are kept on your device only.

10. Permissions the app asks for

• Microphone — required for recording. It is the whole point of the app: recording your dog’s bark. Audio is analysed locally and never uploaded.
• Camera — optional. To take a profile photo of your dog, or a photo to dress up.
• Photos — optional. To pick a photo of your dog for the profile or for Dress up (through the system photo picker, which shares only the photo you select), and, if you tap Save, to add a costume picture to your library.

You can refuse or withdraw any of these in your system settings. Without the microphone the analysis cannot run, but the rest of the app still works.

11. Device backups

Because your data lives on the device, it may be included in the backup you control (Google One / iCloud), encrypted by Google or Apple. We never receive that backup. On Android we go a step further and exclude sound recordings and photos from cloud backup; they are still carried over on a direct phone-to-phone transfer, which does not pass through anyone's cloud.

12. Legal bases (GDPR / KVKK)

• Performance of contract — running the app you installed, processing recordings on your device to give you the result you asked for, and providing the subscription and credits you bought.
• Consent — sending a photo you chose to our server and to Google's Gemini API for Dress up. You give it in the app before your first photo is sent, and you can withdraw it at any time by turning off Dress up photo sharing in Settings → Your data, or simply by not using Dress up; withdrawing does not affect pictures already created.
• Legitimate interests — anonymous analytics and crash reporting to keep the app working and improve it, and preventing abuse of the Dress up server.

13. Retention

• Everything on your device, including Dress up pictures, stays until you delete it (per item, or all at once with Settings → Your data → Erase all my data) or until you uninstall the app.
• Dress up photos and results: not stored on our server. Google may keep them for up to 55 days for abuse monitoring, as described in section 6. Reports are deleted after at most 30 days.
• Dress up credit counters (salted hash of the install identifier and the number of credits used): subscription counters expire shortly after each billing period ends; counters for bought credits are kept for as long as those credits can be used, because bought credits do not expire.
• Analytics and crash data are retained by Google under Firebase's own retention settings.

14. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (including GDPR and Turkish KVKK) you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal data. Because essentially everything lives on your device, the most direct tool is the in-app Erase all my data action, which removes profiles, diary, chat, recordings and photos for good. For anything else, write to heyisoft@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.

15. Children

Dog Translator is for users aged 18 and older and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly process children's data; if you believe a child has used the app, write to us and we will delete any data we hold about it. Please do not send photos that show people to Dress up, and never photos of children.

16. Credits

The dog sounds bundled with the app are real field recordings, not synthesis. Every clip comes from Freesound: 34 are CC0 (public domain) and 16 are Creative Commons Attribution (BY 3.0 / BY 4.0). Attribution licences require credit, so the full clip-by-clip credit list — title, author, licence and a link back to the recording — ships inside the app, under Settings → Sound sources. We read each licence off its own source page rather than trusting a search filter, and we discarded every recording whose page carried any trace of another species. What we changed in each recording: a single vocalisation window was trimmed, everything below 80 Hz was filtered out, and the level was normalised.

The sound model was trained on the openly licensed subset of FSD50K — Fonseca, Favory, Pons, Font and Serra (IEEE/ACM TASLP, 2022) — restricted to clips released under CC0 or CC BY 3.0, plus additional CC0 Freesound recordings. Datasets carrying a NonCommercial clause were deliberately excluded.

17. Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
